  29. This is a new release of Private Idaho (a PGP, anonymous
  30. remailer, and nym server front-end for Windows).  This document
  31. updates any information found in the help file.
  32.  
  33. Private Idaho is unsupported freeware, licensed under the GNU
  34. General Public License.  The licensing agreement is found in the
  35. license.txt file, distributed with this application.

  39. PIt is now out of beta. This does not mean that it is necessarily
  40. bug free, but there are less likely to be bugs and they are likely
  41. to be relative tame bugs. By using this software you accept full

  144. PI34t.EXE is a self-extracting .ZIP file.  It uncompresses all of the
  145. required files to run Private Idaho.  You can delete these files after
  146. you've installed Private Idaho.
  147.  
  148. You can also choose to run PGP QuickStart from PI-SETUP.  This utility
  149. will help you download and configure PGP.
  150.  
  151. If for some reason you have problems with the installation, you can
  152. manually copy the files.

  180. Mixmaster and Private Idaho
  181. ---------------------------
  182. Mixmaster (or Type II) remailers offer a high level of security 
  183. (see http://www.obscura.com/~loki for complete details).  Up until now,
  184. Mixmaster has only been available to UNIX users.  Mixmaster's author, 
  185. Lance Cottrell, has recently released a DOS client version of the 
  186. application that works with Private Idaho 2.7b (and later).
  187.  
  188. Since the Mixmaster client uses export-controlled cryptography, it is not
  189. included with Private Idaho.  Refer to http://www.obscura.com/~loki for 
  190. information on how to get a copy of MIXMASTE.ZIP (the compressed version
  191. of Mixmaster and its support files).
  192.  
  193. Note: Although Lance and I have taken every reasonable precaution to assure
  194. that DOS Mixmaster was not exported, it appears that one or more persons 
  195. unknown to us have exported the DOS version of Mixmaster (in violation of US 
  196. law). We intend to continue to abide by the letter of US law in this matter, 
  197. however we will list non-US ftp sites from which Mixmaster may be obtained as 
  198. a public service:

  202. To be able to send messages through Mixmaster remailers you need several 
  203. files:

  205. MIXMASTE.EXE - the Mixmaster client
  206. MIXMASTE.CON - a support file
  207. PUBRING.MIX - the list of Mixmaster remailer keys
  208. TYPE2.LIS - the list of Mixmaster remailers
  209. MIXMSTR.TXT - statistics on Mixmaster remailers
  210. MIX.PIF - the PIF file for shelling to the DOS application
  211.  
  212. These files are included in the MIXMASTE.ZIP file.  Uncompress the files and
  213. move them to the directory containing Private Idaho.
  214.  
  215. After you've installed these files, in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file add the 
  216. following line:
  217.  
  218. SET MIXPATH=C:\PIDAHO 
  219.  
  220. with the directory path specifying the Private Idaho directory.  Reboot your 
  221. computer and run Private Idaho.
  222.  
  223. Using Mixmaster remailers with Private Idaho is no different than using 
  224. Cypherpunk style remailers.  Select Mixmaster from the Remailers menu, 
  225. compose and address your message, select the remailer(s) from the drop-down
  226. list box to use, and choose Append info from the Message menu.
  227.  
  228. Private Idaho will shell out to the DOS version of Mixmaster, and prepare 
  229. the message for sending.
  230.  
  231. You'll need to update information about Mixmaster remailers, just like 
  232. Cypherpunk remailers.  Specifically the PUBRING.MIX, TYPE2.LIS, and
  233. MIXMSTR.TXT files.  You can do this over the Net with the new update
  234. remailer info command.

  247. The first line of any section gives the address mask for an ISPs
  248. e-mail addresses surrounded with { and }, eg. {*@*.demon.co.uk}.
  249. IMPORTANT:USE LOWER CASE
  250. The following wildcards apply:
  251. ?           Any single character
  252. *           Zero or more characters
  253. #           Any single digit (0-9)
  254. [charlist]  Any single character in charlist
  255. [!charlist] Any single character not in charlist
  256.  
  257. The next line is the SMTP server and the next one the POP3 server.
  258.  
  259. The next 2 lines say what surround the POP3 username. If the ISP
  260. does not support POP3, leave these lines blank. If it starts at
  261. the beginning, the first line shoudl be blank. For example, if
  262. the username is xxx and the e-mail address is xxx@yyy.com then
  263. The lines would be "" (blank) and "@" (both without the quotes).
  264. If the username was yyy, the lines would be "@" and "." (again
  265. both without the quotes).

  267. The next line is either SMTP or POP3, depending on the mail
  268. distribution method used.

  286. MAIL_IN.TXT in the MAIL subdirectory of the PIt directory.
